Some better photos

Back to Project:

Last March, my friend Jens took much better interior photos with his much better camera!

  • Image:
    Image Description:
The "House" A view from the back of the theatre space. The ceiling was covered over by that dreadful layered paper type acoustical tile and painted black when it was remodeled in the 1970's. A few of the tiles have fallen, giving peeks of a colored ceiling underneath.
  • Image:
    Image Description:
A detail under the balcony area that was missed when the theatre walls were painted white.
  • Image:
    Image Description:
The east wall - water has infiltrated where the higher theatre space meets the balcony space, and the plaster was the first to go. Hidden in the black paint is a light board that apparently outlined the ceiling perimeter with incandescent bulbs.
  • Image:
    Image Description:
A view from the stage toward the rear of the house. The projection booth area was modified for movies.
  • Image:
    Image Description:
West wall of the theatre space.

    Image Description:
East wall of the theatre space.

    Image Description:
Plaster detail at a pilaster just above head height along the wall.
  • Image:
    Image Description:
Water damage has revealed a bit of the color under the white washed interior.
  • Image:
    Image Description:
Above the entry lobby was the theatre office and the manager's apartment. This is a door between the office spaces.
  • Image:
    Image Description:
An original light fixture that was found in the apartment space above the main lobby.
  • Image:
    Image Description:
The balcony looking east. All the seats and the steps between the levels have been removed, everything painted black.
  • Image:
    Image Description:
A view from the west side of the balcony. The spot light man would have been stationed in the right edge of the photo.
  • Image:
    Image Description:
Looking at the stage from the middle of the balcony.
  • Image:
    Image Description:
The original light fixtures in the balcony remain.
  • Image:
    Image Description:
The fabric on the back wall of the balcony, hard to photograph in such a dark area.
  • Image:
    Image Description:
    Original balcony light fixture.

    Image Description:
Plaster detail on the balcony wall just above head height.

I love historic lighting, here is another photo of the existing balcony light.

Here is the ceiling mounting plate for the balcony light. Love the detail!

    Image Description:
The light was hard to photograph, so Jens did many angles.
  • Image:
    Image Description:
Water damage on the east wall at the balcony. The plaster has called, along with the light bar and the velvet. The spot light man would have been located in the balcony bump out at the wall, out of everyone's view but with a great view for his work.
  • Image:
    Image Description:
A view from the east top of the balcony.
  • Image:
    Image Description:
View from the spot light position near the east wall.
  • Image:
    Image Description:
A detail view of the west side stage front. The stairs were added when the theatre did a short time as a church. The movie screen is still in place.
  • Image:
    Image Description:
The balcony emergency exit. Remember this picture when you read the story about the west side emergency exits.
