The TOP HAT launches!
Back to Project:
The 27’ TOP HAT launched today after two years acting as a great teaching model for the Contemporary Wooden Boatbuilding program. Under the careful eye of instructor Bruce Blatchley, students learned an array of skills with marine plywood, strip planking, fiberglassing, and foam core construction with a custom cabin. Tipping its ‘hat’ to the heritage of the vee bottom boats designed by William Hand in the 1900s, the essential virtues remain — seaworthy, good speeds, and good looks.
